Steve Kennedy, Joe Campisi and friend, Heidi, and yours truly met and greeted over breakfast at Blue Star Cafe and Pub in Wallingford. The conversation inevitably turned to photography and covered a smorgasbord of topics in an informal discussion. I showed some Autumn themed images via iPad, and that prompted lots of thoughts about shooting style, composition, and favorite places to find seasonal color.
We adjourned to nearby Woodland Park to do some shooting. Just as in a workshop, we picked spots to stop and shoot each one's vision of the same scene. Then we chimped away to show each other what we did and then tried some more shots and compared them, then on to the next spot.
I thought this was great fun in all aspects. The only downside we felt was the small turnout. So we hope to see more of your smiling faces next time. The next Roundtable led by me will be sometime in January with a weather-eye out for snow.
We had pretty harsh, midday light by the time we were out in the field. So, I am posting a couple of shots to start with that show what is possible to do while shooting in these conditions and then finessing in post-processing. Hopefully Steve, Joe and Heidi will add their thoughts on the Roundtable/Outing experience and post some images as well.
Heide and I had a wonderful time Getting together with Steve and Catherine! As Catherine said, the light was harsh, but you make lemonade when given lemons! Her's couple of mine...
It's so fun recognizing all these shots, where we were, and what we were trying to do. Great shots all; expecially for shooting in exactly the "wrong" conditions!
Joe, I love the shot of the pool. I looked that one over myself, but didn't try it. Yours is what I would've hoped to get.
Steve, you did it! with the fir tree trunks and maple. It looks great. And you know how much I liked the red leaf shot when you took it.
Douglas, hope you can make it next time. But I wouldn't turn down a chance to shoot in the Gorge under good conditions, either. So, we forgive you!

Comments welcome.
Catherine, I really like the balance in your comp and your post processing is just right. I need to learn more about post processing.
Here are 3 of my shots taken at Woodland Park in the harsh mid-day light.

Your second shot came out very nice! And Steve nailed that maple/fir shot for sure! Still working on mine!
