I was out to Rowena this evening shooting. The Balsamroot is looking good, the Lupine is just starting and everything is nice and green. I wouldn't wait around for the "peak". You should start coming out here every chance you get. Today, there was no wind, a real treat to anyone who's been out to Rowena in full gale before.

Thanks for the update, Mark. I think I will make a couple of trips out there this weekend. Maybe the ticks aren't out in full force yet..!

Thanks for the headsup, Mark! Does it look better than last year?

So far it looks better than last year. It's late, but so far so good. We might hit that real nice Lupine/Balsamroot combo right on this year.

Mark, When is the best time to shoot there. Morning or evening?

I was out there last Saturday. It looked better than last year but not near has much Balsamroot as two years ago.

Chris, myself, I like evening best but both morning and evening work. You might have better luck with the wind in the morning though.

Erik, I think it's still early. I see a lot of Balsamroot ready to pop.

I was out there last saturday and boy was it windy. There were'nt any signs of balsamroot then, but plenty of sunflowers.

The yellow flowers you saw were Balsamroot, Pradeep.

Isn't Rowena the old back road into The Dalles? Are you seeing this there or on a different road?
Posted by Mark Hudon on April 19, 2006 at 3:07 PM
I guess you could call it that. Take the Mosier exit off of Hwy 84, go through town, like you would if you were heading to The Dalles. Drive that road till you get to the overlook and there you are. All along that road is real nice, actually. Be on the look out for poison oak though, it's everywhere.
