I have a tradition of heading to the dunes when i have a token day off in the middle of the week, add the prospect of fresh snow on the Sangres (unfortunately, next to zero on the dunes) and some left-over clouds--who could resist?
This is from yesterday. Winds were pretty biting--tis the season. The more painful it gets, the more i love it cause it keeps the dunes nice and quiet. I think it was just me and Kiyo (Japanese dune photographer extraordinaire) hanging around for sunset.
Here's late afternoon from up top.

2) Always blows me away to see the Sangres sneaking up over the dune crests.

3) B&W, backing out a bit

4) Lots of color working its way into the picture for sunset

5) Close up of the Sangres

6) Beautiful soft colors in the distance

One could be very happy with #2-6, imo, esp 6. 1&8 do not call for me very loudly. Do you have a frame for #3 where the complete peak is in sunlight, and maybe more delicious sky for the pano?

Great series Stan...I really like 2 and 3.

These are very nice, with #2 being superb, and #3 being out of this world!

thanks!
Doug--i thought i did, but maybe not, will have to recheck the files. The clouds were moving so fast i just had to take what was given to me with the shadows.
I have a 2 img stitch with more sky at peak color--still have to process that one (i like saving my best shot for last )

#4 and 5 are my favorites of this series. I really like the rich colors in 4 and the wide angle perspective. In #5 I like all the detail in the mountains and how the clouds are just lingering above. The others are nice, but those two stand out the most for me. I think #3 would look nice with the color version as well.

Very Nice! The comp on #2 is terrific, might even make a good B&W. The light in #6 is gorgeous, that one is probably my favorite.

Wow is right!! I like them all. I do really like #3 and #4. Very Very nice indeed!
6 and 8 were the ones that jumped out at me. Love the pastels in 6 and 8 has that other-worldly feel to it that you get walking around the dunes. The lines in 2 are very cool as well.

Yawn. Stan, don't quit your day job; these are so uninspiring. Where's the sarcasm emoticon when you need it?
Stan "Dunes" nails the Dunes once again! Well done!
Love #2. That's a stunning perspective with exceptional light. I suppose that's what happens when you shoot the Dunes...Sweet, sweet Light!!!

#'s 2, 6 & 8 are really quite good and somewhat unique to your growing Dunes portfolio. That's why I like 'em.
I would love to have included #3 had the shadows passed from the mountain.
That's great that you met another Dunephile there!

#2 (such an interesting, unusual comp) and #4 (wow, vivid warm light!) are my favorites. I agree that #3 would be even better with more light on the peak. Nice selection!

Great stuff as always, Stan! I love the somewhat abstract and surprising nature of #2, really cool shot, and I prefer the tighter comp there to #3. Of the grand landscapes, #4 grabs me the most, though I do like the cooler "winter day" color palette in #1.
Very nice set. Love #2 - very original. I like #5 & #6 very much - great light and tones, although the comp in #6 draws me in more. (Could live without #8 - feels a little overcooked to my eye.)

The Dune Man is back...and man is he back. WOW. Love 4 and 6!

#2 & #4 - ditto, ditto, ditto

Great stuff Stan! 4 and 5 are my faves with 6 being a close 2nd. I love the saturation in 4, but the pinks and purples in 5.

Stan, great series but I have to say number 2 is F'n amazing! I've never seen a shot like this. Absolutely incredible! Best in show. Number 3 is amazing too but I like that there's not much atmosphere in number 2. This, to me, is inspiring because it's so unique. Can I ask, had you ever seen a shot like this before you took it?

There is a reason this place is called the "Standunes" -- excellent work, Stan, 2,3 &4 are awesome.

Thanks!
Russ--if you mean other photos by other photogs, then no. I do have a couple similar shots because its a common experience when you hike up the dunes (from south of the standard straight walk out from the parking lot--i prefer heading south cause it gives me better views of the Sangres) that you see the Sangres peak out over the dune crests, so i was just reacting to what appeared in front of me. I went for a more abstract look by doing a focal stack to keep the front and rear equally sharp.

Nice to see some dune shots from you Stan! 2,3,& 4 are the top of the class for me. #2 has a simple elegance, an excellent quality to me.

If I had more than 2 thumbs, I would give #2 at least 3 thumbs-up! Striking comp!
