Fall Colors...Salmon red

I got out early this morning in search of some fall colors to shoot. I found a bit of color in the trees along the banks of the North Fork Lewis River. Getting out of the car I noticed all the fisherman and while framing a shot of the river without fisherman and boat clutter, I noticed all the salmon (coho I think,) jumping.
So I decided to try and combine a fall foliage and winter salmon run themes into one shot.
I saw fisherman catch many salmon about 10 lbs, and was able to capture several jumping but this fellow was the biggest and I'm guessing somewhere between 15-20lbs.
I know this looks like a photoshop scam, but it's real.

Lots of gulls and bald eagles combing the river for an easy meal.

Doggone it, Craig! Love the closely cropped one; that is one beautiful fish. The other one looks like a little problem with the sky at the tree tops… But gees, you are sure nailing some great shots!

What a boon, Craig. The focal length in the first is a bit unfortunate. We can see that the fish is doin' its thing, but we do get more sky and water and trees and less fish than we want, I think. Maybe try cropping off the left 3rd entirely (i.e. keep only the right bank, orange water, and fish) I think it would have more impact and have less of a snapshot look.

I agree with Marylynne's crop suggestion. Nevertheless, you captured a great moment here Craig!

This is awesome Craig! Your timing here was perfect. I really like how the red scales on the salmon stand out from the rest of the scene. Well done.

Wow, what a grab! I often think I should try fishing for these guys. I do love salmon, but then I realize it would come at the expense of photography time!
