Thanks a lot Scott. I'm trying to get this as a sticky but when I try to upload, it wants to go to Road Kill...I'll email Jim E.

Thanks for hosting, Scott! What are the image guidelines? Size, dimensions?
Posted by Jack Garrett on November 10, 2011 at 8:43 PM
Kalin, I forwarded your question to Scott..should have an answer directly.
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 10, 2011 at 8:48 PM
All images must be 800 pixels wide no matter what the height. So this means portraits will be bigger than landscapes.
Unfortunately, this is how the plugin works and I didn't have time to fix/change it. The plugin will also automatically resize your image if you submit an image smaller than 800 pixels wide. This will likely reduce the quality of your image.
This info is on the upload page, but I've now added it to the contest page too.

Is there a way to pay without going the PayPal route?
Posted by Jack Garrett on November 10, 2011 at 9:11 PM
You should be able to pay with a regular debit or credit card Jeff...here is a sample of how to do it:
you wont be paying this outfit..it will go to Scott.
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 10, 2011 at 9:12 PM
I suppose you could send me cash or a check. Please email me via the link below if that's what you'd like to do and I will send you my address.
Note that a PayPal account is not required to send a payment.

800 pixels wide...what's the Kb size limit?
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 11, 2011 at 8:30 AM
There doesn't seem to be a limit, unless its embedded in the code somewhere (its not my code). So save images for the web as you normally do and let me know if you run into any problems.

Thanks Scott and thanks for getting this going
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 12, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Please don't wait until the last minute to submit your images!
Since this is a new contest format, I'm a little worried about a total technical snafu.
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 15, 2011 at 9:18 AM
Submissions are starting to roll in, and they are GORGEOUS!
So far, the submission process seems to be working smoothly (keeping my fingers crossed).
Submission deadline is Sunday, November 20! Don't miss out!!
Posted by Russ Shugart on November 20, 2011 at 7:39 PM
Scott, I just tried to submit a photo and it errored out. Let me know if there's something else I can do, like e-mail the entries. Thanks for all the hard work to put this together!
Hi Scott - me too. I can't see how to make the payment via PayPal - the link just takes me to a PayPal login page and then to my account page. Error on upload screen is "I'm sorry, you can not upload photos.
Last possible date for voting on the photos is 27/11/2011". Appreciate any pointers.

It appears that the contest end date/time doesn't work off local time, but server or greenwich time. It's buried in the code somewhere.
I'm going to try and fix it. I'll reply again when I have an update. Until then, you will not be able to submit photos.
Ah, good old timezones. If it's any consolation, I'm busy right now hand-editing timezone changes for all of Russia (10 time zones) to bring TPE's database up to date. You have my sympathy!
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 20, 2011 at 8:26 PM
Stephen, thanks.
I made a change. Give it another try and let me know if it works now.
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 20, 2011 at 8:43 PM
Great!
(Timezones. Grrrr. Would that the plugin developer was as diligent as you... )
Posted by Harold Ankney on November 20, 2011 at 10:09 PM
Hey Scott..I seem to be having a bit of a problem. I up loaded a image for the contest and I am not seeing it posted on the contest page.
Harold
Ok..thought about it and I think I need to resize and maybe rename it since there is a photo with almost the same name
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 20, 2011 at 10:26 PM
Harold, Please try it again. There is not an entry in the contest database for your image. Also... I get an email for each image submission, and I never received an email for your submission.
Posted by Harold Ankney on November 20, 2011 at 10:36 PM
Hey Scott ..sent you an email

Just figured out that the contest does not like titles with apostrophes. It truncates them. I fixed a number of titles. So if you see a title that should have an apostrophe for correct grammar, but doesn't, its not the photographer's fault. Its mine. I figured better to have incorrect grammar than incomplete titles...
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 21, 2011 at 12:54 AM
About an hour left. But I rise early, so all you last minute submitters are on your own...
Note to self... next time make the submission deadline during my waking hours.
Posted by Phillip Noll on November 21, 2011 at 9:17 AM
Don't use an "&" in your title either or it will be cut off.
Posted by Scott Bacon on November 21, 2011 at 9:21 AM
Sorry, Phil. I missed those. I'll fix all those in the database tonight when I get home from work...
Posted by Jeff Hackett on November 22, 2011 at 12:50 PM
Scott, thanks for your hard work in putting the contest together. This contest is one high quality field!

Some great work this year folks. Deciding on just three to vote for was tough!
Posted by Adam Schallau on November 28, 2011 at 7:48 PM
Hi Scott, I'm trying to go back in and view the names attatched to the image however I keep getting the message "Error this contest is closed!" I tied logging off, then back in. Any thoughts?
Posted by Scott Bacon on December 4, 2011 at 9:17 AM
Sorry about that. Apparently, when the contest ends, you can't view it anymore. Another thing to add to the list...
I've fixed it, for now. When we find a permanent home for the contests, I'll migrate this year's fall contest to that location.
