We're at a time of transition between the seasons of fall and winter. This month's theme is "Transitions." I know a bunch of you have some great shots of the recent early-season snows as they passed through the region's forests when they still had fall foliage. Let's see 'em! This topic also need not be just about the transition of these two seasons or seasonal transitions at all. It is only limited by your imagination.
Also, if you have ideas for future monthly themes, please feel free to contact me with them. I look forward to hearing from you all. Enjoy!

I'll get things rolling with an image from Summit Lake near Mount Evans. The lake was beginning to thaw in a transition between the spring and summer seasons. Bet it looks a lot different up there right now than in this shot!

This is one I shot at the beginning of last summer in the Tetons. There was heavy amounts of snow still in places yet this carpet of wildflowers added a nice contrast of winter and summer. I don't get to see snow as often as I'd like, but this was a nice treat to see in the summer.

Transition from Darkness to Light. My brother and I were exploring a lava tube in El Malpais National Park when we rounded a bend and came upon a section of the tube where a small part of the roof had collapsed, forming a skylight to illuminate the total darkness of the lava tube.

Great shots so far. Here's a shot I took along Red Mountain Pass right after an early snowstorm.

Not from this year, but I thought it fit the category pretty well. Taken in the Avalanche Creek area near Marble.
Here's one from a couple of years ago. This is the stream close to the trail head at Glacier Gorge in RMNP - not normally a high priority port-of-call for the Colorado photographer, but I liked the creeping ice formations.

I chose this one because there's a couple of transitions going on here. The slow transition of a burned out forest making a slow comeback, and the transition from from summer to fall.

Here's an image taken on a recent hike with my 11-year old daughter and a friend, as daylight darkened to dusk and the greens of summer were giving way to the reds of autumn. And trust me, the children are undergoing a transition to from sweet kids to ... teenagers!
