Wow, the Avian Gallery is really hopping! Posts are at an all time high, the quality of images is incredible (from all over the world), and best of all, the participation in commenting is outstanding!! Congrats to all and keep up the good work!

I hadn't looked at the avian gallery in some time before this last week and was thinking the same thing Bob. There's some amazing and inspiring photography from folks I hadn't seen on the forums before. I've never focused much time on photographing birds but with the project I'm working on this year that's going to change so I'm hoping to learn quite a bit from the forum--especially in regards to digital capture, which I'm new at. As I learn I'll be posting some photos that will not be my best photography overall but hoping to get some good pointers from the avian photography specialists out there. Randy
You're right Bob. The gallery is really hopping. I think your efforts and Garth's to keep things moving in the right direction has contributed a great deal. Kudos to you both
I'm especially taken by how the tone in the Avian gallery is very friendly and positive. Participants make a serious effort to help each other and there seems to be no ridicule or flaming. As you mentioned the quality of the photography is really going up lately and I think your positive approach and mentoring has really helped set the tone. Kudos again
(Now if we could just get those few people who post a lot but never comment to share their expertise... )

No doubt about it - the moderators set the tone and lead by example, and participants follow suit to create a great place to share our passion for nature photography. Thanks to all of you for making it so!

I was surprised to see this topic. I've been thinking the same thing lately. The quality has been outstanding. How the heck do the moderators pick a photo of the week?
I'm so inspired that I even went out and shot birds this weekend for the first time.

same as Ed, thank you all for all the help the past 1,5 year
Funny, I mentioned this to Jim in an email last night before seeing this topic. As I told Jim, I've been birdin' for many years (remember when an American Kestral was a Sparrow Hawk?) but only recently turned the lens of a camera in their direction. The mods and regular commentators in the avian forum have been very helpful in guiding me on my learning journey into nature photography, as have the participants in the other forums where I occasionally post an image or two. Good, honest criticism from real experts is what I've come to expect here. Thanks to all of you that make it possible!
Kelly
PS I wish I could post more than one image every 48 hours. I have so many that I want your opinions on.
Ed seems to take the words right out of my mouth, and beat me to it all the time!
I, for one, am very grateful to everyone for their help and advice in their commentaries, not just on my postings, but on all others, too. One can never not learn something new every day you are on NPN.
You and Garth have done a fantastic job as Mods and to you both!
One other thing, I have made many new friends through NPN - many thanks in this regard, too.
