Lens Gap

Currently, I have a gap in the lens line-up between 35 and 70mm.
I am shooting the Nikon D90 with the Nikon 16-35 f/4 and Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 Most of my work is landscapes and the 16-35 gets the most use. Not being rich, the Nikon 24-70 is out for the moment. I am considering the Nikon 16-85DX, or the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8

Do you have any preferences for either, or another option to consider?

A 50mm f1.8 would give you an affordable high quality fast lens. A 55mm micro would give close-up capability.

I agree with Robert - a fixed focal length macro in the gap would give you first rate image quality and the ability to do other types of subjects. There's no need to have an unbroken range of focal lengths IMO.

I agree with Richard unless you stepped in concrete and let it set.

It's not "cheap," but we're sincere fans of Nikon's 24-120. Image quality is very good, and the zoom range hits our needs about 90% of the time. It has a fixed rather than variable min aperture, so there's no change as you zoom, and good for us, it uses a 77mm filter like all our other "carry" lenses. We get in situations requiring us to use more than one body on a shoot, dropping one while the buffer downloads and continuing to shoot with the second body. To avoid lens changes in such fast paced settings this one is unbeatable, and in fact my wife and I have two apiece now.

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. I will look into the 50 and 55.
