I see the post and record numbers have reverted to their original totals on this the discussion forum.
That alone will be enough to tempt some older posters to use it !

BTW, the numbers change all the time as topics and replies are archived or deleted from the system - so don't put undue emphasis on them!

Nick
I refer in retrospect to those on the thumbnail forum, which do not record a true imput of my responses on the site as a whole. Those on the discussion forum do. Maybe they did before but I didn't notice it. I am sure quite few may have not done also. I refer to the "new" setup where pics can be posted again. I do put emphasis on them (as do others )because I feel they are valuable and show an accurate record of my or anyone's participation on the forum. I suppose they also show a record of varying degrees of participation by others. I see no point in even recording posts /comments etc unless they are up to date. I am confused by your comment that they can change or be deleted.
I also note that one can now post a pic on either site (one on thumbnail plus one on discussion ) within 24 hours . I am thick but its all a bit confusing.

At the minute the 'thumbnail' gallery is still running, but will be shut down to new entries shortly once the message has spread to everyone - so for the moment look on it as a 'bonus' until we get everything sorted out.
As to the record of participation, as I said - as topics/replies are purged from the system every know and again, those numbers will go down. So unless you know the timeframe they refer to, they are effectively meaningless. Even though my 'registered' year is 03, I've been around for longer than 8 years, and I've certainly created more than 409 topics and replied more than 5424 times in that time. So, what I'm saying is don't get too hung up on the numbers.

Dunno - it was probably originally intended as you interpret it. But, as NPN has grown and changed over the years, so we have to delete old topics to make way for new ones. It appears that, rather than a lifetime count, the system calculates its figures in real time - meaning the figures can go down as well as up (sounds like an investment warning )!
Also, the thumbnail gallery was developed at a latter period, and for some reason best known to the programmer uses a separate counter. Why?...one of the mysteries of the universe

I thought the posting numbers had reset 'cos the database storage servers had changed twice over the years, not that records had been purged?
Doesn't really matter what the reason is tho'.
Certainly having a central platform to store the images is considerably better than the original system of having to use your own website/data area to upload images via a link - but of course this comes at the cost of a membership fee.

We've been through several platforms and each time it's changed, those numbers get lost. IIRC, the current count goes back to around 2005.
In the main galleries, we have a few who have over 10,000 posts in the IC galleries. Bear in mind that the image critique galleries and the discussion forums are two separate pieces of software and the counters don't talk to each other. I know, not ideal and perhaps some day we can combine then (all it will take is money).

So why bother to record them then
