Not the prettiest of subjects!

Thanks for looking and for all the comments so far.

Taken with my replacement Canon 7D, EF 100mm f/2.8L macro, handheld, 1/250 sec, f/4.5, ISO400. Imported with Adobe camera raw, processed in CS5. Shadow/highlight, curves, noise reduction with Nik Dfine and fullframe.

C's & c's welcome.

The retailer exchanged my camera for a brand new one, admittedly after a little complaining, but all in all their after sales service was excellent. Hopefully this one will last longer than 4 months!

Thanks.

Hi Paul,
very sharp for a handheld shot and at f4.5 you have managed to achieve a lot of detail on the head and eye. Well done sir! :toast:

A FOAL !! Great. More DOF would have been nice but a good image nonetheless.

Thanks Nick, the IS on this lens is a great help!

Thanks David, I'd normally have my flashgun handy, I forgot it and it was too dark for anything other than wide open. Another weather induced compromise! FOAL!!

nice and sharp Paul and well composed but it looks like you would have benefitted from a bit more light.

Glad you had no problems with the aftersales Paul. Great detail in the fly. :toast:

Thanks Matt, yes I should have packed my flashgun and diffuser! I'm getting more and more absent minded!

Thanks Pete, its a shame I had to complain, but I got the result I was after in the end. I will complain again if it goes faulty! Its always worth doing, because a repair means the warranty stays the same, an exchange means it resets. Well done on the moderator post by the way! :wavey:

Very well caught Paul, remarkably so considering it is hand held. The very bland RHS of the image spoils it for me though.

Indeed well done for getting the camera replaced, a nice image that looks like it could have benefitted with a little extra light bounced in from a reflector....

Just discovered a disadvantage with posting images back in the old way... you have to keep scrolling up and down unless you are the first to comment...

Very sharp where it matters. I agree though about the right hand side.

Super sharp for handheld at a 1/250th, a touch more DOF would have been nice, but hey, I'd be pleased with this if it were mine. Nice one, Paul.

Thanks for the positive comments and advice.

I must say that this L version of the 100mm macro is superb, not much difference compared with the non-L optically, but the image stabiliser is such a great feature and increases the keeper rate. I'd recommend this lens if anyone is considering it. Leave the tripod at home!
