Taken on a local lake. Nothing much happening so I started playing around with the resident swans. This is one of this years youngsters. I don't normally like using B/W on wildlife images but I thought I'd give it a go and these youngsters suited it better than the all white adults.

Excellent monochrome conversion and a gorgeous image. A catchlight in the eye would have been a bonus - a touch of fill flash?

Agree with previous comments. The monochrome has brought out the feather detail beautifully and the pose is spot on! Well seen and captured Sir!

Great photo Robert, love the pose, composition and the B&W treatment works here. I agree with Ian, maybe a subtle fill flash just to get a catch light in the bird's eye would have been nice. Just a minor nit, superb shot otherwise.

This and Phil's Canada Goose image are both excellent examples of what can be done with common species. I really like this and would agree that the only way it could be improved slightly would be if it had a carchlight in the eye.
