This is pure reality. This photo was taken at 12:21 PM on November 19, 2011, just outside Deadhorse, Alaska. Soon, the sun simply not rise above the horizon. I think November 20 is the last sunrise at Barrow until late January.
I've been doing some consulting work on the slope, and I had was a little Canon PoweshotSX230. (You didn't really want to spend any time outside with a camera, anyway.) I believe that's a helipad there in the foreground, by the windsock.
Settings F/5.9, 1/400 sec, ISO-200; but in reality, I didn't even check the settings before I took the picture, because I was looking into the wind.

Amazing how an environment can be so beautiful, yet so deadly at the same time. Thanks for sharing!
