There was a recent thread here on Adobe's planned change of upgrade policy, restricting upgrades to the most recent version.
Apparently it isn't in effect yet, and Adobe claims to be offering a 30% discount through November 29 on upgrades from CS 2-4. That would make the price merely extortionate...

HI Jim, I just upgraded from CS2 Premium Suite to CS5 and it was a killer. $1100 with the discount. I do think they could give a better break on upgrades. I upgraded now because I was afraid of the cut off. I wanted to just upgrade the photoshop to CS5 but they don't have that option.

Here's a link to Scott Kelby's open letter to Adobe re: the upgrade situation:

A professional blog I monitor for Nikon users are saying they really don't need upgrading. It was about the longest thread I've seen there and most of it was negative. These are people who do photography for a living.
One said perhaps new camera bodies are not supported with older programs but their reply was, are the upgrades really cost effective.
I don't know but something to consider when parting with cash.

I just upgraded my CS2 to CS5 from Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $159 and tonight noticed another price drop to $139. It's going to take a big incentive in terms of price or improvements to continue to shell out money for any further photoshop software.

I fixed the link to Adobe in your original post.

ps: Unless PS-CS6 has some killer features and improved speed, I'll stick with CS5. I don't really want to give Adobe any more of my money.
