Common hawker going through the change
Nikon D300 105mm macro 1/30 at F9 ISO 100 MLU tripod and release cable

Taken last year and one of a series as it emerged from its exuvia which took about an hour from emergence to fully formed, mind blowing to watch. This one is backlit and the empty case looks empty as the light shines through it as normally it is a dark colour. All comments warmly welcomed.

lovely detail and I like the soft backlighting Nick. Very nice. I agree that it's a mind blowing process and amazing to watch.

That is excellent Nick... the light is just superb, the translucency of the exuvia is something special....

Thanks for the comments, I wasn't too sure if the case would work out backlit. This lovely specimen came out of my garden pond so I sat in comfort with a cup of coffee whilst I watched and photographed this wonder of nature.

Great backlighting illuminating the culmination of an amazing metamorphosis. You're lucky to be able to record this in the comfort of your own home.

Hello Nick.

Excellent capture and love the backlighting.

The only comment from me would be that it needs more contrast, with it being backlit I would like to see the dragonfly sightly darker which would make the backlighting look even stronger.

I am truly in awe of many of the macro images on this site and this is another one of them. It would tick all my boxes.
