Nikon D7000 300mmf4 1/160 at f8 ISO 320 tripod cable release taken at my garden feeding station.
Humble house sparrow. The males in particular have some lovely subtle colours in their plumage. The lower wet plumage is caused by previous showery rain. All comments warmly welcomed.

Very nice Nick,
Nice and sharp and a very pleasing background, not too sure about the perch.

I like sparrows and this is one I would love to have.

Very nice indeed. I would have presented it with a little more sharpening. If you are new to this, you might be able to find a sharpening routine that I posted on the forum in the past. If you can't find it and would like to see what it does, send me an email.
I love it. Sparrows aren't so humble any more and we consider ourselves lucky to have a decent sized group around here. I'm not normally a fan of square crops but it works well on this. Lovely background and the perch looks fine to me.

Some nice detail in here, and I agree with Robert about the square crop. I do find the perch dominates a little too much, and I find myself looking at the lichen rather than the bird.

Great photo Nick, I'd agree with Phil that the subject needs a bit more sharpening. Maybe that would reduce the rivalry between the bird and perch? Its a cracking picture and I don't have any issues with the crop.

Very nice! He's posing nicely for you too. Not too sure on the perch, but I can't put my finger on why as it's lovely with all the lichen on.

Hello Nick.
Lovely portrait of the Sparrow with the perch and background working beautifullt together.

Looked at this a few times . It is a nice enough perch but to me doesn't really go with a house sparrow.
Nice shot though.

Many thanks for taking time to look at my photo and for leaving all your comments. I appreciate the perch is not to everyones taste but it was set up at my feeding station and I couldn't resist the pose and plumage of this house sparrow. Since all the trees around here are literally covered in lichen and moss I didn't think it too out of place, after all it is a Heilan' hoose sparrow.

this is a lovely shot Nick. I think the perch is really nice and adds to the image IMO. Nice pose and background too.
