As the New Mexico event coordinator, I'm looking for some input from you all regarding what types of events you are interested in and whether or not you would be willing to come to New Mexico and participate.
A couple things I have in mind include:
Print Exhibitions
Many places in Santa Fe require the artists to be NM residents. But I'm still looking! I hope to find at least one venue per year. We'll see.
One-Day shoots (These would be mainly for NM residents due to travel issues but, of course, everyone would be invited.) Examples include:
Ghost Ranch
Plaza Blanca
Santa Fe Plaza/Canyon Road
Taos Gorge
Jemez Springs (Fall)
Etc.
Extended Weekend Shoots (with Camping)
Abiquiu/Plaza Blanca/Rio Chama
Jemez Box/Valles Caldera/Jemez Waterfalls
Bosque del Apache/White Sands/VLA
Taos Gorge/Williams Lake/Taos Plaza/Taos Pueblo
Carlsbad Caverns/Guadalupe Mountains (Yeah, I know its in Texas but its close!)
Mogollon/Catwalk/Gila Cliff Dwellings
El Malpais/El Morrow/Bandera Crater/Acoma area
Etc.
Road Tours (Driving through NM with many photo stops along the way)
Santa Fe/Kasha Katuwe Tent Rocks/Jemez Springs/Valles Caldera/Bandelier Nat. Mon.
High Road to Taos
Black Range/Mogollon/Catwalk
Turquoise Trail/Madrid/Cerrillos/Golden
and others....
So, If I organized a 2-3 day camping/photography trip in the summer or fall would you be inclined to come down to NM? If I could arrange an exhibition, do you have photos of NM that you would be willing to frame and display? Would you be interested in 1, 2 or 3 day traveling/camping tours? Would you be willing to pay fees for special access to certain places?
These are just some ideas bouncing around my head and I welcome any and all input you may have. I'm thinking 1 exhibition and 1, maybe 2, extended weekends/traveling tours per year if there is interest. There may be more single day shoots pop up here and there.
Just trying to gauge interest so I know how much effort to put into this and how much planning I need to do.
Thanks for thinking about all this, Phil! I'd be interested in all of it. One-day shoots are probably more realistic for me these days, but I'd do my best to be involved with longer ones. Another interesting idea for an overnight would be the Quebradas near Socorro.
Print exhibitions: would love to participate, need to get a better handle on my printing though!
Access to special places would be super cool, and I'd cough up fees as long as they aren't ridiculous. Have you thought about the Ortiz Mountains Preserve? Also, the holy grail of NM special access to me would be the San Andres Nat Wildlife Refuge; I know they let in volunteer work groups sometimes, not sure whether they'd consider photographers.
You might consider posting something about this in the general forums, as I know there are some New Mexicans there who don't seem to hang out on RMNP.

I would be interested in the extended weekend ideas! Regrettably I haven't spent much time in NM, mainly because I am not so sure where to go. I would love the opportunity to go with people who know the area! I think you have some really great ideas here. Can't wait to see what comes up this year!

I'd definitely be interested in extended weekends. My daughter went to school in Roswell for a few years and we made many trips down there for breaks, picking her up for holidays, etc. During that time I was able to parlay those into photo trips to Bosque, White Sands, Churches of the High Road, and more. I'd love to go back to any of those areas and I've never been to Bisti or Chaco so those hold special interest for me. Summer and early fall would be perfect timing.

Oh yeah! Forgot about Chaco and Bisti!! And Shiprock! And Largo Canyon! And De-Na-Zin! And Aztec Nat. Mon!
Sooo much to see!!

All that sounds fantastic - very interested!
Long weekends are probably best for me due to travel time. The only things that would prevent me from coming would be lack of time off and family duties, definitely NOT lack of interest!!

Don't forget Three Rivers Petroglyph Site to go along with White Sands. Valle Vidal and Wild Rivers Recreation Area could also make an interesting fall trip.

I'm not into the camping but would certainly consider day trips...you are pretty awesome at this planning thing

I may be interested in meeting up for a day if something is planned within the Colorado Plateau (NW New Mexico).
All of the above, including reasonable fees for special entries. The sooner I know about extended trips, the better I'll be able to come along since I am already in the planning stages for the first part of next year.
Thanks for taking on the role of planner.

Possible special access to places such as El Rancho de Las Golondrinas or maybe, if I can swing it, the Valles Caldera (These may require a fee.)
