The sunrise on the way home from work looked pretty nice over the cascades. Think i'll hit washaway beach and see if we get a good sunset. Thanks Jack.
The Columbia River has been spectacular from the Glen Jackson Bridge this week. The Cottonwoods were bright orange (frost probably knocked down a lot of leaves last night), the water was glassy, and the fog and filtered light make for a dreamy view of Mt. Hood. If you have a boat or are comfortable using the shoulder in the fog, the northbound side would be a great place to shoot this weekend.

I don't want to be a killjoy but I'm not sure I'd risk life & limb shooting from the bridge!
I live right there actually just beneath the Glen Jackson bridge and use it frequently and I think you'd have to be pretty to the risk to do that although I've certainly seen it done on a few occasions. Btw, you'll be on camera and I'm pretty sure you'll get a ticket too although that might be the least of your concerns ...
Thanks, Graham. I should have emphasized the danger I only implied in my last post.
When they redid the surface of the bridge last year, they widened the east-most shoulder by about a foot. I have pulled over to the shoulder, changed to the passenger seat, and shot out the window, but for the record, I only do it in my Chevy Silverado (it's high enough to look over the jersey barrier and being huge and teal, it's more visible and heavier than my Prius, which I fear would be too easily blown off the shoulder by a strong wind). Also, keep in mind I do this going north bound in the morning....most of the traffic is heading south at the time. Gotta love going to work in Vancouver from PDX...my commute is dreamy.
So, Graham, do you live in a house boat? Maybe we should have a shooting party at your place some foggy Fall weekend ;-).

I live just off the Old Evergreen Hwy on the river. Look down to the east and see the marina as you travel north, that's where I am. Actually there is a really nice bar/spit that runs out on the east side of the marina that puts you nicely out a couple of hundred feet into the river - great for shooting right down the river towards Mt Hood.

Looks like those conditions are continuing, thanks for the tip Jack!
I think the easiest way to shoot from the Glen Jackson is to ride your bike. That way you can safely stop in the bike path that runs between the north and southbound lanes, hop the median, dash across the four lanes with your gear in tow, grab your shots, and then try to make it back to the bike lane. Oh wait... it's not April Fool's Day yet. Never mind .
