I just received an email from a friend that I should consider using “Photospecifier as a way of
selling my work. After reviewing their web sight. I have some reservations. It just seems like it
is a holding pond for all types of artist and purchasing agents. It sounds good……..But
Has anyone had or have dealings with them. Are they legit? Have you sold anything?Has it been a worth while investment?
Is it me, but there are so many internet companies out there
that wants your money but really don’t give you anything in return but promises
As you call tell I have some doubt. So if you have any info on this situation I would be most appreciative.

Thank You

Joe

P.S Wishing all on NPN many blessings this Christmas season!!!

I'm not familiar with this site, so hopefully someone else will chime in. In general though I've noticed that the business of photography is more about making money from other photographes than it is from selling your own images.

Based on a review of the site it appears to be a place to put up photos you want to sell for use by architects and designers. There is a complimentary membership for buyers and a $100 annual fee for sellers (artists/photographers). There appears to be no review or jurying of what gets gets posted. The buyers search and contact artists/photographers directly and there are no fees or commissions on sales you make. That's the plus. The negative I see is that there appears to be no marketing on behalf of the artists/photographers either. Instead you get exposure to member art directors, etc., another "place to be seen". A search of the list of "vendors" http://www.photospecifier.com/mod/bizdir/index.php turned up a grand total of 8. The premium member listings shows 7.

I wouldn't touch it. The premium members consist of; the site owner as an art representative, one artist (painter), 3 other art representatives, a framing company that does reproduction for the hotel, hospital, casino, restaurant and office market and a small claims court lawyer. The last being somewhat ominous to me. The framing company appears to be the only buyer in the bunch and you could easily contact them directly since their contact info is right there. You'd be better off investing in a copy of "The Photographer's Market 2012" and doing some targeted and active (rather than totally passive) marketing of your photos.
