Crikey Phil this one looks like it has been through the mill. You could try a tighter crop as losing the legs may enhance the mane

No hissing and booing on thursday

I would prefer to see the BG in the same tone as the lion, it looks to be mono rather than a slight yellow. Good conversion of the old lad, lions really do make great monos.

I really like the lion's expression here Phil. It's a lovely portrait but you can't help but feel sorry for him with all those flies. I've also been playing around with B+W lately but I'm not yet in any position to offer critique on your processing

He can look as stern as he likes, it doesn't seem to be impressing those flies very much. The b&w treatment works well, especially in the larger version.

Very nice portrait of an iconic African image and works well in B+W. The flies add to the portrait of a silently suffering animal who is just as majestic in repose.

I'm no big fan of B&W in wildlife photography but I really like this Phil. The subject is so powerful and that regal haughty expresion really is the icing on the cake. I reckon this would be just as good in colour. Excellent.

Nicely processed! I quite like the slight hint of a sandy colour against the monotone background and what a face :toast:
