Yet another shot as I was patrolling for birds at Tulelake Wildlife Refuge. The contrast in colors caught my eye here. After I took a few photographs, something else caught my eye...two forms within the tree, after throwing on the 2x extender on the 300mm, I found out they were two great horned owls, which I later photographed after I moved closer to the tree.
WOW,
Nice catch on the Owl. The first one is nicely composed also. Too bad that bunch of branches are to the right of the tree. It would be nice to see the tree a little more isolated. I realize this is all you had to work with and you made the best of it.

Great scenery, Ryan, and you had some sharp eyes to notice the two Great Horned Owls! I see they were feeling rather secure within their photographer proof tree - I hate when the birds I'm trying to photograph decide to remain behind a mass of branches!
Others have told me that this area is wonderful if you are a birder or bird photographer but I've yet to get down there...
It is a wonderful bird and wildlife area. What we saw in one day: Bald Eagles, Golden Eagle, Hawks, American White Pelican, several species of duck, Canada Geese, Snow Geese, Great Horn Owls, Great Egrets, Mountain Bluebirds, Blackbirds, sparrows, mule deer, muskrat, Coots, and many other bird species that I'm not familiar with. And we weren't there during its peak! It was well worth the trip.

Ach! I WILL get down there, hopefully this year! Thanks, Ryan.

Nice initial shot as well.
