Thanks for the comments on the last image. This was the result of half an hour free in the garden. I put some dried mealworms (dead) in a tray on the watering can, and hid behind a chair. After about 10 minutes it came down onto the spout of the can before hopping to get to the food, and then proceeded to repeat this again and again, giving me plenty of chances!
Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 200-400
Resting on chair
F5.6
1/125s
ISO 500
This is processed using a trial of Capture NX 2, which I have not got the hang of yet. I far prefer Photoshop!

Love the perch Oscar What about a touch of flash?

Nice, classic garden-bird pose. I think Bob is right in suggesting that a little fill in flash would have helped here.
I agree a touch of fill flash might help, but also a bit more sharpening on the bird. Some potential for some nice shots there though Oscar, keep at it

Like the perch Oscar........makes a change from the usual spade handle! I use NX2 and like its ease of use, the colour points are excellent for making quick adjustments to areas of the picture.
