Lovely pose Neil and all that moss adds a really nice setting. Were the flashes diffused as the light could be a touch softer?

Yes they were. Perhaps they need to be further away but that would be difficult.

Always good to see a small mammal posted. It looks a little dark on the screen I am viewing it on, but the monitor is uncalibrated.

A nice image Neil. It is a little dark but the underside of logs are dark. My only decent vole picture is one hanging from the talons of a kestrel

Cheers guys. I am trying not to make them too bright as the underside of the log is dark. WITHOUT Flashes I am shooting at 1/4sec ISO800, f4..... even focussing gets difficult at times.

Nice one- they love bird feeders!
By the way you say no flash but mention 2 speedlights ?
Cheers

Nicely captured Neil, I think I would try to done down the top edge a touch but other than that I really like it. Incidentally, I too have been unable to post anything over the last two nights

Two vole pics in one day! Like the moss around the head good DOF for f4 too. Unusual image nicely done.

Actually it is f8, the reference to f4 was simply to show how dark it is under there.
Thanks guys, hope I can get back there before my UK trip.

it does look a little dark to me too Neil, but great otherwise. Nicely composed and I like the mossy setting.

Lots of fun shooting these characters under a very dark log, where hardly eaten bird food has fallen.
