Silver Island Dawn
Jeff Hackett's recent salt flats post inspired me to throw this one out. I tend to fall into the trap of only posting my very best work; this one isn't quite what I was hoping for on location back in April, the sunrise really never got any better than this. But it's grown on me a bit, I like the feeling of vast skies, empty space and isolation, and I'm curious what others think of it. This is north of Wendover, UT. Is there a more romantic toponym in existence than the Silver Island Range?

Fabulous sky in this one! It looks like its crying for someone to put some text over the top of it and make it a cover on some publication. The only thing I might try to fix in this is the horizon. I wish it was straight but it is suffering from the wide angle and has a bit of a curve to it that takes away from this otherwise beautiful image.

The clouds really are the star of this shot -- I like it! Ditto what Erik mentioned about the curve, which should be easy enough to fix.

I love the space you allowed for those interesting clouds. Yep, I agree the curved horizon on the lower left might be fixable by first trying the Lens Correction filter in Photoshop, if not perhaps Transform or Sheer would work (though I'd be very careful with those). I think a B&W version of this photo would really shine too!

Those are my words to use on this one Jackson. Explored that Great Salt Lake's Antelope Island last week. I find the place amazing . Want to get back and do early and late light.

Thanks for sharing .

Excellent sky here Jackson, I love the expansive feel. Ahhh, the vast beauty of Utah's west desert.

Thanks all! I was wondering how much the horizon might bug people. I don't notice it much, but I'll definitely see what I can do about it. There is actually a bit of a slope at the location, in the base of the range at left, so it may look more distorted than it is. But some certainly is legit distortion, so I'll play with flattening out the ground at lower right.
