If anyone's thinking of heading to Grinton in the next week or so for Grouse, then check the AA/RAC for roadworks and diversions - seems there's been flood damage to the bridge at Grinton and a couple of other roads around Reeth/Leyburn/Hawes are closed due to flooding - there're a number of small bridges in the area and some may be damaged too.
I can't see too many people visiting at this time Nick, but if they do they'd be best coming in from the Redmire direction. Most roads (if not certain bridges) will be open again fairly quickly as the water levels don't stay high for long. However, if there's any snow over the next few days the moor roads are often impassable anyway. I couldn't even get up there in the Defender on Tuesday.
I had all four wheels spinning on the Landy despite the diff-lock being on, so I decided to turn around as I didn't have my chains with me There was quite a lot of snow up high hence the extreme flooding from a sudden thaw rather than it just being rain. Everything is just icing over nicely now, bloody weather
Just waiting for a bit more snow, then I'll be out grouse hunting in the dales again. It's not quite enough to get them flocking up yet, last year was great!
