I hope anyone hoping for shots of the Snowy Owl visiting Ridgefield this weekend, has better luck then I did this morning. I was out there early in the sub freezing temps but he was a no show, possibly in a non-public part of the refuge. I was very lucky however to get some nice photo's of a Western Meadowlark that was out looking through the frozen grasses for his breakfast. The shots I got will make a nice addition to my meadowlark gallery. This cropped image is 80% of the original. Shot from car on refuge auto tour route.

Stunning Craig. You take such amazing bird photos, but the way the bird fits in with the vegetation, the selective focus, the superb detail of the feathers, the lighting... Definitely a fave here.

Another fine shot! John pretty much says it foe me, too, about all the things that make this such an excellent image.
Heh-heh, no doubt the most important thing in the gear list was the hot coffee...
