Barn Owl

One from May of last year, a Barn Owl on the hunt. I'm not sure about the lighting on this one, does the fact that the owl is in almost complete shadow and the lack of any visible catchlight detract from the shot?.

1/1000th @ f5.6 -1/3rd iso800 ( 80% of FF and a couple of dust spots removed )

Please view the large version.

Thanks for the feedback on my last post and thanks for looking.

Andy get what you say about the lack of catchlight and that's a shame but i still recon it's a fine image.

Tis a shame about the catchlight, but I don't think it detracts too much. The pose and composition are great, and the background is really lovely. I see a little green cast under the wing/body possibly a reflection from grass? I wonder if a tweak to the colours might sort it and bring out the lovely autumnal colours in the background a little more?

No problem with the lighting Andy. A catchlight would have been a bonus but still an excellent image.

I agree with the above comments Andy. A catchlight always gives a bit of life to the eye but it's still a very nice image.

Yes a bit more light in the eye would top off what is already a very smart shot

Beautiful image Andy.................Barn owls very rare here in the Highlands and I would be over the moon if I had this shot, catchlight or not. I think on a printed large version it probably wouldn't make any difference.

catch light is always diserable but as we head to towards the barn owl season i would be more than happy with a flight shot with this much detail :toast: :toast:

Nothing much to add. I think we are all envious, catchlight or not.
