Grouse in flight
Nikon D7000 300mm f4 + TC 1.4 1/2000 at f6.3 ISO 640 handheld crop to pano and several small twigs cloned out to left hand side

Managed to get three shots of the grouse as it flew between trees, this was the best. Not very experienced at BIF's. Not sure about the dark shadow areas. Strong sunlight on the day. All C+C warmly welcomed.

Looks ok to me.
You could lift the blacks if you need to but no big deal. It would possibly have to be selective on the underparts. Maybe I would drop the bird a tad but ohers will feel differently.
- personal choice really.

Looks spot on to me Nick. There is terrific detail where you need it so I wouldn't worry about the shadows on the underside. Great catchlight in the eye, nice wing position and to my eye, well composed. Like it a lot.

Cracking flight shot. Nice detail and sharpness around the head. Shadow is fine with me but I would also bring the bird down slightly

Works nicely as far as I am concerned. I agree about bringing the bird down slightly, but it is a minor nit.

Considering how rare the black grouse are in the UK this is a terrific shot. Finding one is hard enough and then nailing one in flight takes it to another level for me. :toast:

Thank you all for your comments they are much appreciated. I am fortunate to live in an area where these beautiful birds are still plentiful.
