Can anyone give me some information about the best location along the Mississippi to shoot Bald Eagles in January and February? My research so far is leading me to LeClaire, IA, Lock and Dam 14. Thanks.

yep, that is where I went last year. There were about 20 of them. I'm hoping to go January 14th this year. Let me know how it turns out for you?

Ron, #14 is a good place to catch eagles fishing, it also is a place where long glass is not as important, much of the action is close to the walkway there. Another thing that is nice there is the access is about as easy as there is, and there are usualy plenty of other photographers there to visit with,( sometimes way too many) you can park close and never have to walk over 50 yards . So far this year we have not had any cold weather to concentrate the eagles along the river, but that will change I'm sure, especially in Jan.-Feb. Last year the weather was colder and we were shooting already, this year there are some around but are not concentrated yet. If you check my posts on the Midwest Forum from last year, you will see some from Burlington IA and LeClaire. I shoot mostly at #18 because it is close to me, and spend my time between Keokuk and Leclaire IA. Drop me a E-mail and I will keep you up on what is happening as the season progresses, or watch my posts.

Ron, I was looking to head to #14 soon and was curious as to how your trip went? SInce I only have the Nikon 300mm the walkway sounded good to me being close to the action. Where did you end up at and did you visit the Elton E Fawks Bald Eagle Refuge across the river?

Thanks
