Thanks for the comments on the last image. I was very privileged to capture a few shots of these very elusive birds. Unfortunately I didn't catch many keepers. Here is another shot of the same bird, this time with a head turn and hopefully better levels on the grass! I had to crank up the shutter speed as the wind picked up and a feather on the birds back kept popping up and spoiling the shots!
My own critique is that I'm not sure if this pose is to everyone's taste and I couldn't get a catchlight in the eye. All c's & c's very welcome as always.
Techs: Canon 7D, EF 600mm f/4L, f/5.6, 1/1000 sec, ISO400, manual exposure mode. Imported with Adobe camera RAW, processed in CS5, NR with Nik Dfine, fullframe.
Thanks!

Much, much better than the first post Paul. Your viewpoint is far better.

Greens look better and i think i agree an improvement, however i loved the mush and low point of view in the first

looks good to me Paul and a bird I've yet to see. A bit more eye contact would have been nice but you can't always have it all.

Hi Paul.
It looks super from where i'm sitting, very nice image of a bird we don't see much of these days.

Indeed a tricky subject in this country, often heard deep in tree cover but seldom seen feeding on the ground in my experience, at least in the SE/Berkshire.
Being ultra picky I'm never a fan of "mown lawn" as the backdrop to NH subjects, but you have to take what chances you have

Cracking shot of a pretty rare bird. No Nits from me.

I would have preferred the bird looking up a little bit more, but I would have been more than happy with this.
