With the release of CS6 next year, Adobe will no longer allow discounted upgrades from versions older than CS5!! Currently you can get an upgrade price if you owned any of the last 3 releases.
I just stumbled across this tidbit yesterday. It would have been nice if Adobe had notified their registered users.
After upgrading with every release since Photoshop 4, I finally decided to be frugal this year and did not move to CS5.
So, for all you CS3 and CS4 users who are waiting to upgrade to CS6 next year, you may want to buy a copy of CS5. Adobe has a 20% discount offer on the upgrade until the end of the year. Or, take your chance that this is another "Netflix" disaster and Adobe will be forced to change their policy, eventually.

A reprieve - for now - from Adobe. Looks like all the negative feedback had an impact.

Scott Kelby wrote an open letter to Adobe regarding the policy change. I fully agree with his position:

"Adobe will effectively be restoring their longstanding “three versions back” upgrade policy through the launch of CS6, until the end of this year… "

But the upgrade price will be "tiered". Those with older versions pay more.
