Can anyone recommend a good, warm, waterproof, gaiter-ready, winter boot for snow shoeing?
For the boot you recommend, please let me know if I need to order a size larger (seems some snow boots are smaller than regular boots for some reason).
Thanks!!

Phillip, I'll start by saying I don't own these-- yet! I have several friends I've snowshoed with who have these though, and love them. I've had them in my sights for a year or so, just never had the extra money to pull the trigger. Soon hopefully. They tell me that they are the warmest boots they've tried, which is just what I'm looking for, as I tend to have bad circulation in my feet, thus cold too often. And for those winter mornings shooting sunrise, standing around not moving, that's what I need!
They are over boots by the way, so maybe not quite what you are looking for, but thought I'd suggest. Dammit, now I want to order them!
I bought lightweight, thinsulate-lined Garmont Momentum GTX boots last winter and love 'em. I rarely wear my Sorels in the field anymore because the Garmonts are way more comfortable.

I use Baffin Technology boots, which have a soft upper which flexes easily and means less chafing, I did put a lambswool insert in though cuz the sole seemed to transmit the cold upwards, now they are very warm and comfy. Got them at REI about 8 years ago when I went to Churchill for polar bears. I haven't used them for snowshoeing yet. Being soft uppers they might not offer enough lateral support when crossing hillsides in snowshoes.

I have a pair of La Sportiva Karakorum's and I really love them. Very comfortable from the start. I've crossed 8 or so inch deep streams with gators on and no water got in. They seem about right for sizing; I wear 10.5 and 11's fit about right with no toe hitting the front on descents. The only possible improvement would be good old Vibram waffle stomper soles with Norwegian welt stitching.

Personally, I'm a bit old-school and just use a solid hiking boot with gators.
