Can someone give me a little information on where Rowena and the wildflowers around there would be found ? I don't know that area at all and want to go there tomorrow.
From Hood River take I-84 east 5 miles to the Mosier Exit No. 69. Take old US 30 to milepost 6 and park at the Rowena Crest overlook. There is also a sign that reads "Tom McCall Preserve". Walk the trail through the Tom McCall preserve.

Rowena is about 8 miles east of Hood River, from I-84, take the mosier exit, and follow the old CRG highway east for 6 miles. The wild flowers are all around the parks, there are 2 maim areas, the upper and lower.

Isn't it always windy in the gorge? I don't think I've ever been there when it wasn't windy except for several years ago in the summer when it hit 110 degrees outside of Boardman! That was hot!!
It was about as still as you could expect there this morning. If it warms up out east, the rising hot air will suck colder air in from the ocean, right through the wind tunnel we know and love, The Columbia River Gorge.
The flowers are good but not very good (better than last year though). The Balsamroot is looking real nice and in patches there is some Lupine. I'd say that next weekend will be the peak of Balsamroot and with they Lupine about one third reved up
