If you've been wanting that 16-35mm f/2.8 but have winced at the $1650 price tag (prices rocketed up after the earthquake), now is the time to strike, the dealers are warring right now plus there;s the rebates through 1/7/12. The 16-35mm today is $1394 at Amazon. I paid $1350 in May 2009!

Also, if you have a Fry's Electronics Store near you, I just bought a new Canon G12, always wanted one for quick stuff, for $299. Seriously. You won't see the price until checkout. And get this: they are selling the 5D Mark II with the 24-105mm lens for $2699, same price I paid just for the body in January 2009. Again, the price shows up at checkout. I'm not sure if they are doing this for online delivery though... you can order online but the pickup is B&M only (brick & mortar... sorry, gear-head forum speak, lol).

The deals this year have been crazy. The $2499 Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS II was selling for list price for a long time, today it's $2069 at B&H, and earlier today it was down to $1969. I also saw the 5D Mark II body at Adorama with a LowePro 170 for $1999. I'm tellin' ya, if you've been thinking on a purchase, NOW is the time to pull the trigger. Easy stuff, one week before Christmas, huh?

How do you find out about these deals??? I just checked several stores (including B&H and Adorama) and their prices are no where near what you quote. :frown:

edit:
OK, Amazon does have the 16-35 for $1394.
Canon 5D Mark II @ Adorama without a LowePro 170 is $2399
:frown: :frown:

If you see any more deals, please let us know!!

Phillip, the deals are changing like crazy. Right now this link gets you a 5D Mark II body for $1999, I just checked it. The Canon store has factory refurb 5D Mark II's for $1699! Here's the link, but it will most likely say out of stock. Just keep checking and one will show up. Canon refurbs are like new, just a 90-day warranty. But a Mack Warranty for 99 bucks and you're covered, lol.

What are you after, let me know! I have several sites and search things going on. I actually have most of what I need, but the prices have gotten so low I'm just excited to tell the NPN folks when I find 'em.

Here's the 70-200mm 2.8 IS II for $2069 at B&H Photo. The Canon store has refurbs of this lens for $1699, keep checking back for stock.

BTW, just went and picked up the G12, and was disappointed to see that the metal body is gone. When did they nix that?? Glad I paid only $299, it now feels like a $300 camera.

With such a big discount on the Canon 5Dii, does it mean that a new version is just around the corner?

Isn't it weird that a normal Adorama search doesn't return that price? I find most deals in the Hot Deals forum at www.slickdeals.net. Find a post that has a Photo category icon and click it, then you will see only Photo posts. I use that and the Tech category. That's how I got the Canon G12 for $299, and it was not advertised anywhere else, you just had to know to put it in the cart and start the checkout. Somebody figured it out and posted it, and I caught it at the right time.

Nice catch on the 5D2! I paid the full $2699 in 2009 before they lowered the list price, but no regrets. Your patience paid off though!

I see what you mean! Here's a 5D Mark II with 16GB CF Card for $1999.95 at B&H!!

Amazon had a "Lightning Deal" yesterday that featured the 5D Mark II for $1900!! I should have waited!!

LOL! Oh boy, Phillip, the Deal Bug has bit, now your on the prowl... maybe they'll drop it to that price again today and you can quickly order it and cancel the other. Amazon is weird like that: put something in your cart, anything, and look at it once or twice a day, and the price changes constantly, sometimes, only a penny. It's weird, you know that isn't done manually by some person at a PC when you have millions of items for inventory. I did that with the 50mm/1.4 once, watched it for a week, and one day it dropped to $298 for a couple hours (this is going back a couple years). Point is, pop the 5D2 into your cart and just see what happens. It does get time-consuming though... if you forget about it, you can be happy as the NPN member that got the cheapest brand new 5D2, lol.

I may just stick one in the cart and see what it does. I JUST ordered the 580 EX II for $399, hasn't been that low in two years. I've never used a flash with my Canon gear, guess I'm conforming. I'm starting to do outdoor family portraits (not sure how THAT started!), and with the Phoenix nuclear fireball we call a sun, I need some side fill in the shadows. I need to find a soft box for it, I can't stand the look of straight flash output.

Anil, I don't think a 5D3 is around the corner, although I have no insider info on that. Most rumour mills say Summer of next year but who knows? When I was shopping for the original 5D in November 2007 there was a price craziness much like with the 5D2 today. I ended up getting that 5D for $1999 with a free PixmaPro 9000 printer, and not long after that the price shot back up to near the $2700 it had been selling for in 2007. We didn't see the 5D2 until Sept 2008, so based on that experience, I don't know if this means a 5D3. There are so many other late-model Canon items at crazy low pricing such as the 70-200mm 2.8 which is a newer model, and also the 24mm, 35mm and 580EX flash, all at 2008-2009 prices. My guess is that Canon is injecting some excitement after a long summer of huge price increases after that devastating Japan earthquake that damaged their factory. Now that they are getting caught up with stock, prices are dropping and causing a great buyer excitement.

Anyway, just my assessment, I could be way off the mark, and a 5D Mark III could be anounced at CES in January for all we know!
