(Tiny) Moon Over Balanced Rock
I made it to Arches NP (barely) in time for a little sunrise action today. Unfortunately, Balanced Rock glowed for a couple minutes, then the thin clouds killed the light. But in the end, even that worked out because I was able to shoot longer with the diffused light! Yay! I had an absolute blast, and the park was practically empty.

If you look carefully, there is a tiny moon slightly above and right of Balanced Rock. I was shooting with my 10-22 so it is hard to see, though I tried to include it in the composition.

Comments and/or suggestions are appreciated. And yes, after I posted, I noticed a couple of dust bunnies. Dang it...Oh, and this isn't the shot with the beautiful glow, that came a little after this.

Angela, I like the comp; shooting up at a subject is difficult and I think this works. And you had some workable conditions with the nice clouds to kill the negative space around Balanced Rock. The rest is just details. Lighting...All of your foreground rock is lacking any "wow" factor because of the time of day you shot the image. Lastly, and a serious nitpick, is when I look at the snow, it has a slight greenish hue. Try setting your whitebalance (assuming you're shooting Raw) to that snow first, ensuring a perfect white. The rest of the image will follow.

Looks like you had a nice touch of clouds for this upward shot. Wonder if a reposition slightly to the left was possible so the two rocks did not appear to touch in the middle.

The first thing I thought of when looking at this (before I even read any of the comments) was "this would look really cool in black and white." As Kane said, the lighting and color are lacking in punch. I'd say don't even worry about working on the color balance and convert to B&W!

This is a really nice shot, Angela. I have long instructed people that you don't need moons and other such elements to be huge and in your face to be effective. They just need to be there and look real, and the viewer will discover them just fine.
