I'm really confused - can someone clarify, please? What dates, and are these for ALL galleries or just these two? (No mention in other galleries)
From WC Gallery: "Weekly Challenge #515 (12/18/11 - 01/07/12) Your Best Shot of 2011. Post your best shot taken in 2011! This theme will runs for 3 weeks during which time the NPN moderators make their recommendations for the 2011 Editor's Pick Awards."
From Flora: "Our annual all star weeks (is) at the end of the yearly critique cycle. For the weeks of 12/4-10 and 12/11-17 please submit some of your best images from the year that did not win a Weekly Pick award. Thanks for all your posts and critiques in the finest Flora gallery on the planet. >=))>"

Sandy: Images posted from December 18, 2011 to January 7, 2012 will be eligible for the first weekly picks for 2012. What I read above is Moderators are encouraging people to submit great work that was not picked as a weekly pick prior to now.
Does that answer it?

Not to make this any more confusing, but I don't believe this is across all galleries. I can say for certain that there is no "second-chance" or re-submission of your best in the Landscape Gallery.
What is true and consistent across galleries is that 12/17 marked the end of 2011 in terms of the annual pick. Images posted after 12:00AM EST on 12/18 thru 01/07/2012 will all be considered for the first weekly EP in 2012.
I'll let Varina clarify WC#515, but here's my interpretation. The challenge is simply to post your best image of 2011 and to let you know the WC challenge is open for 3 weeks. The added information is separate and ONLY to say that during this time NPN moderators will be selecting their picks for the annual awards. It has nothing to do with re-submitting images to be included in the annual pick, that does not happen. The two statements are exclusive of each other. The WC#515 is separate and independent of the annual picks.

Sandy, the only "official" site-wide point to remember is that all photos posted between 12/18/2011 and 2/7/2012 are eligible for the first round of WPs in 2012. The cut-off date for photos to be considered for the final WPs of 2011 was last Saturday. Only photos that have been selected as WPs in 2011 are eligible for the 2011 EPA.
Earlier this month, some gallery mods encouraged members to repost their favorite photos that were NOT previously selected as a WP. Those photos should have been posted by midnight EST on 12/17 to be considered for the last WPs of 2011 - which will be announced later today or tomorrow.
In the Weekly Challenge gallery, the current theme for the next three weeks is to post your favorite photos from 2011. These photos will be eleigible for the first Weekly Challenge pick of 2012.
So, in simplified summary form;
1. All photos to be considered for the 2011 WPs/2011 EPA should have been posted by 12/17/2011, midnight EST
2. All photos posted between 12/18/2011 and 1/7/2012 are eligible for the first round of WPs in 2012

Lon is absolutely correct. Challenge #515 will run for three weeks over the holidays. We're asking you to submit the photo that you believe to be your best from the past year. That's it.
During this time, mods will also be making their picks for the annual awards. But the challenge has nothing to do with that.
Thanks, Varina - but do you mean POST or RE-POST?? I' ve been posting my best shots all along - so are you encouraging us to post them again, for another attempt at a possible WP, as is being done in Flora ??

Sandy, I assumed Varina meant to post any image, whether new or a repeat, that you think is your best from 2011. I assumed this would not be limited to images previously posted in the WC gallery (like Bill did in flora), but would include any image taken by you in 2011 (or maybe including images taken in 2010 that were too late to post for WP consideration in 2011). This would mean you could post an image from 2011 not previously posted, or one posted previously in any gallery. It should be what you consider to be your best in any genre (but still nature) taken in 2011. Personally, I'd love to see lots of people posting their "best image" of 2011 in this gallery over the next three weeks. Again, this is just my interpretration of what Varina meant. Varina can certainly further clarify or correct me. One thing that maybe needs clarified is whether this would include images that won a WP this year. Again, I assume it would, but that's up to Varina.

I think Jim means 01-07-12 , not 2/7/2012 , re the end date for the first round of 2012 WP's.

Sandy: Just now catching up on things NPN and discovered your query. Of course for Flora it is a moot point but what I've done for the past three years at least is ask folks to post some of their favorites of the year the last two weeks of the judging year. It could be a repost or new work and the winner of the WP wouldn't necessarily be a reposted image although this year it did turn out that way. For the last two weeks of 2011 and the first week of 2012 all images will be considered for the first WPs of 2012. >=))>

I think Jim means 01-07-12 , not 2/7/2012 , re the end date for the first round of 2012 WP's.
