I would recommend stoppong at the Ice Castles in Silverthorne. An Ice Wonderland, made for Ice Photography. I also shot this image with a narrow DOF which rendered some of the background ice a out of focus.

Way cool!!! Really like the perspective and blue colors. (No suggestions)

This is incredible, Kane! Have you considered cropping out some, or all, of the dark areas at the bottom?

Awesome shot and great perspective! Does this have some sort of effect applied? The upper part looks watercolor-y or something....

Pam, it's a two image blend, one for highlights and mids, and one dark exposure for the beaming light behind the ice. That may have somethething to do with the overall look and feel.

That is something else! I'd hate for one of those giant icicles to fall on someone trying to photograph them. Very neat and unique image.

Spooky cool, Kane! Ill have to work on the 1951 version....

Killer shot, Kane! Looks worthy of Marc Adamus' portfolio, and that (IMHO) is a huge compliment!

More form the Ice Castles in Silverthone. Peddles are easy, but can you find the drip?
Having fun now. Am I having too much fun when I switch up the White Balance and go for a soft Emerald flavor? Or do we have to stick to the true whitish gray ice? Thoughts?

Really good stuff here kane. I'm sorry to have missed this. Just moved from Silverthorne after 14 years. The shapes and colors are fantastic!

That first one is sick! Love the feeling of depth and your treatment of the exposure blends! Where in Silverthorne is this? I haven't been west of Woodland Park since late October! I just might have to get up there this week.

These are way cool (pun intended). Much better than watching the movie (although the 80s version is much better than either the 50s one or the 2011 prequel). The first photo definitely looks like alien tentacles or something reaching down toward you. The second one almost looks like jellyfish rising toward an ocean surface.

While I'm a John Carpenter fan ...c'mon man this is Hoth all the way.
Great find and shots!

Last one I promise. This one is a two image stitch with a 24mm prime. Two different Ice Stacks, thus the slight split in color.

Fan-frickin-tastic! All of them are awesome, but that first one is amazing...ok, well, the last one is amazing, too. WOW.

Great stuff Kane! #1 for the abstract (I enjoyed the mystery of what it was until I saw the caption) and #3 - I'd love to see a large format on #3. This kinda reminds me of the Slot Canyons, just in blue.

That last one looks like something Roger Dean (Yes album artist) would paint, but that first one still is the -- ahem -- icing on the cake.

The right side of #3 looks like jellyfish icicles. Very interesting and could be an image on its own.

BTW the Ice Castles is located on 40 about a mile or two north of the Silverthorne I-70 exit. It's on the right and you can't miss it. Also, these images are blends, one exposed for highlights and one for shadows. These Ice Stacks don't glow as much as my images convey. If you go, obviously shoot them as you wish but don't be surprised that blue color and huge dynamic contrast is not happening with single exposures.
