I entered an online competition by Osprey Packs "Going to the Dogs", rules said "Whatever photo you submit, just make sure it includes a photo of YOUR dog out and about with YOU on an adventure." Guess what won? Just a photo of a dog on its own. I contacted them just ask why they didn't follow there own rules when picking a winner and the response was "You make a good point but we chose the winner on best photo. Our apologies should you feel disappointed in our choice." Is this really the way to run a competition yet a business?
I knew I never really had a chance to win but I entered for fun to share a picture of my dogs.
Ahh....now I can breathe that I have ranted. Just curious has anybody else ran into a situation like this.
I have 3 Osprey packs but today Osprey has lost a customer.

Well, yeah I would agree that if it said YOU and your dog, then it should include both subjects! Based on their response it sounds like they decided to throw out the rules....sorry for the way they handled it Jody, that wasn't right.
Hah! I went to your link and saw the winner. It is interesting to note they changed the rule for the winning shot but not for a lady from Australia...see below:
"And an honorable mention to Mandy Creighton. We loved your shot of Lucky leaping in Australia, but unfortunately winners are restricted to the US only".

What kind of crap is that??? And the winning photo isn't a very winning photo! Ugh!

I'm okay with rule-breaking, as long as it's for a good reason. Looking at that winning photo, I'm still wondering what that reason might be...

I also entered the contest and am disappointed by their choice for the winning photo. Couldn't care less that I didn't win but you're right, they broke the rules. Osprey lost me as a customer when they stopped making good, quality daypacks and switched their entire product line to the ultra-light crap that I destroy in less than a year.

Jody, do not underestimate your talent. Enough said.

I haven't read the full set of rules, but from the sentence above I don't get the impression that both you and the dog have to be visible in the frame. It just tells me that the picture should be of the dog while it out with you on an adventure.
Actually, I think it is quite ridiculous to ask someone to make a picture that includes both the photographer and the dog in the frame.

I have to agree with Anil here--the rules make perfect sense to me as written. If you are the photographer, then it would be silly to include you in the frame, unless you used a timer. If the dog was with someone else on an adventure, well then the dirty dog is cheating on you
On a grammatical note, if the rules was intended as you suggest, it would have read: A photo of of you and your dog out on an adventure...
or "you with your dog". For some reason, people always get hung up on the word 'with'--drives me nuts...
Oh--and Todd should be appalled at the lack of html code...
PSS-i like the winning photo but i dont think its a winning one, cause it doesnt convey a sense of 'adventure' to me
