I was looking forward to catching a sunrise on the Flatirons with a bit of snow. The forecast was "partly cloudy" for the morning. No luck. A solid cover of clouds blocked all light at sunrise.
About an hour after sunrise the clouds started to breakup in the west. No color, but I thought these B&W conversions were worth sharing.

Killer clouds! I love the sweep of these, Bill, esp. the second one.

Love those clouds Bill! B&W really works well here!

Oh ya, lovely clouds. Nice B&W. I'd be tempted to deepen the blacks. Might be worth experimenting. But that's a nit. These are beautiful as is.
Incredible clouds...again, the right place at the right time...B&W conversion works very well.

Incredible clouds Bill! I agree deepening the blacks, especially in the sky, would make it pop more.

Great cloud features! Too bad there are so many snow trails on the hills.

Really wonderful conversions! I especially like #2. I can even see it as a vertical. Awesome!

Bill nice shots. Is that my old 17mm tse that I wish I could have back?
Posted by Bill Pelzmann on December 22, 2011 at 11:37 PM
No, Kane, both were shot with the 24mm TS-E.
Your 17mm is on its way to Lake Powell via the White, Green and Colorado rivers.
But State Farm bought me a new one.
Don, yeah, those Boulderites are an active bunch.
This was taken a day after the snowfall, so there wasn't much left untracked.
I will experiment with the blacks if I print these. Thanks for the suggestions.
I backed off a bit because these were already such dramatic interpretations.
Believe me, the original sky is DULL.

Seems like B&W was definitely the way to go here. Both of these are wonderful. The only nit for me is the tracks in the snow, but they could be easily cloned out. It's been said, but it's worth saying again: those clouds rock!
