I thought I would share an interesting close encounter. We were heading out of Sweetwater Wetlands when I stopped to look at a small bird perched high on top of the reeds. My wife was about 15 feet to my left when she quietly said 'green heron' and started pointing just in front of me. For some reason I could not see the heron and took a couple of slow steps forward to the water's edge. All of sudden this green heron rises up from the reeds and looks right at me. The staring contest begins to see who will make the first move. I wait for just maybe 15-20 seconds when I slowly raise my camera and got this shot before the heron took off. Not as good as Rich's latest Green Heron post but it was fun being this close.
Regards,
Jim

Interesting story Jim and neat perspective on this heron. I like the "crosshair" reeds in front of the bird.

"Arresting" seems an appropriate adjective for that stare!
