New Moon Cannon Beach
We took a four day weekend Thanksgiving at Cannon Beach. I was positioned to capture a sunset at Ecola Point but alas the color never materialized. So I thought why not stay a bit and try for a view south to Cannon Beach and include the new moon. This image is the result. Hope you like as I am very pleased with the long exposure rendering.

Oh…! A fine shot, Phil. Was this astronomical twilight? Love the strip of color at the horizon, the twinkle of lights at Canon Beach and the look of the water in the long exposure.

Nice shot Phil. Unsure about all the empty space above the horizon but overall I say it's a keeper.
Best to you and yours this New Year. :toast:

Catherine,

Thanks for your great comments! The image was made at 5:14 PM on 11/28/11. Nautical twilight ended at 5:40 PM while astronomical twilight ended at 6:16 PM.

Bruce,

Thanks for your comment. While yes there is a fair amount of sky above the horizon, I felt the sliver of new moon needed breathing space. The image evokes a totally different emotion without the moon. I may post that image in the future.

Thanks Ned! I plan on printing this image at 24x30. It's going to take a lot of blue to print!
