My apologies for being a posting and commenting slug over the past couple of months. Do not let anyone tell you that being self-unemployed-retired makes for lots of free time. At any rate, we celebrated Christmas with my son's family in Eagle and I was able to get out a few times to make some shots. One morning the temp, by the way, was as low as -17F. You gotta be tough to be a Colorado photographer, eh.

East of Eagle about 5 miles the red rock cliffs drop down to the Eagle River. I was there at prime time but the light was awful - a dull grey sky - no sun whatever. Then, for about ten minutes it happened. The sun broke through a tiny sliver above the horizon and lit up the rocks. Never leave before the magic happens they say.

Here is a wide-angle vertical of the same scene as above.

Some of my photography pals gave me low marks on this image. Frankly, I love it. It may be that I like it because it was so cold that my fingers were falling off and I couldn't feel my nose for two days. This is a stand of aspens along East Brush Creek Road northeast of Eagle.

Tell your photography pals to take a hike! The last one, while not Earth-shattering, is nice. I love the detail in the snow. The sunset shots, OTOH, are killer! It definitely pays to wait and hope.

I hear ya about the time constraints of being "self-unemployed." LOVE the composition on #1. Definitely a Colorado-esque scene. The colors are a little flat in the hills (it's winter what are you gonna do?) but perhaps a conversion to B&W might give that image an extra pop. The color on #2 is wonderful and I like the zigzagging lines of the river, always pays to wait for good light. I also like the last image. The two small trees in the snow under the much bigger ones create a nice balance to the image and a evoke a wintry "circle of life" theme. Awesome post Rod.

Nice down-to-earth set, Rod! I especially like the comp in #3
