Grand Canyon Resources?

Hi folks,
We have a son getting married in Scottsdale AZ next May.
We wanted to take a 2-3 day side trip to the Grand Canyon.
Most of what I have seen in online searches is very slick and commercial (not that there is anything wrong with that)
But - does anyone have any resource recommendations for that area that they have had good luck with, to help us plan our stay.
I'll be in the photo mode, but everyone else in the group will just be there for the sights...
