This is more about process than results, though I'll post an example.
Bulky DSLRs are very often a poor mix with family events and adventures. Size is one problem- they weigh us down and interfere with our movements. Worse yet, we all tend to get SERIOUS when we slap one to our face.
I doubt I'm the only one on NPN that carries a pocket camera or smart phone these days. They're ideal for capturing family action, and not just because they're so small. They're also less of a distraction to others, while shedding you of the need to be SERIOUS about your photography.
Why bother taking pics if you're not going to be SERIOUS? Because family photos are anything but SERIOUS! In fact, they're much more valuable than SERIOUS photos as chronicles of events and lives of those dearest to us.
But what in the heck do you do with all those photos accumulating in the modern "shoe box" we call a hard drive? They're no different than the shoebox of photos in your grandparents closet unless you get them out and do something with them. Thanks to the array of services at our pro lab, we have found a terrific answer.
For 12 years now, we've been assembling calendars featuring photos of our granddaughter, sending those as Christmas gifts to far-flung relatives and friends. And they've become treasured archives for everyone, even as they're a neat way to keep tabs on a youngster most seldom get to see and enjoy.
The photo I've attached is the first installment for our 2013 calendar. It's from a family visit to the ICE! show in Washington, DC after Christmas. At roughly 6 photos per calendar page, that means we have have 71 more to collect over the remainder of the year. Can't wait!
It's not art. It's fun!!!!

"Cell phone cameras" sure have come a long way and this is a great example of the results that can be had with them!
I will tweak the Member Lounge forum definition to include photos like these. I think it would be the prefect place to share them!

I'm seeing more and more shots posted that came from cellphones. I agree with you about not carrying heavy camera gear around for family outings. I came to that conclusion a couple of years ago. The outing should be about the family, not playing with cameras. Looks like the kid is really enjoying the attention here!
I sure seem to get "better" shots with the pocket camera, mostly due to people paying less attention and being more candid than with a full DSKLR.
I never saw the movie and can't find the connection, but she's really taken with that particular zebra character, as seen in her choice of head gear. If you compare, she's actually trying to strike the same pose.
