Am I imagining things or was there a message in the forum earlier about a NENP get-together this winter? Is anyone still interested?

We are! Any ideas or suggestions?

Jim...

I was thinking of heading to Plum Island to see if there are any Snowy Owls about. But that narrow a focus (no pun intended) might not appeal to everyone. I'd be happy to collect info for one in my neck of the woods if there is enough interest. There are some easily accessible spots here to shoot scenery and I've been experimenting recently with incorporating stars and star trails into some of my scenic work. There is that possibility for those who want to brave the temps and I do know of spots to find birds, i.e. pileated woodpeckers and gray jays to name a few. And we could always mount a search for moose and other animals.

If anyone likes to photograph winter ducks, there are plenty--including Harlequins--off the Rhode Island coast at Sachuest NWR in Middletown. Motels rates in the Middletown area are quite good at this season. just a thought ...

That's not a bad idea Nancy. I've been to Sachuest once and it was worth the trip. Definitely something to consider!

Sachuest is one of my favorite haunts, but I would definitely be up for an outing to Plum Island to shoot as well.

I haven't been to either location, but I would really like to join you guys for either!

And Nick, I'd love to explore up by Rangeley too!

It sounds like Plum Island would be a good choice as it's centrally located for most of us. Does that sound good to everyone? And does anyone know that area in terms of lodging, etc? I've only been there once and it was a day trip.

I'm interested too. Plum Island would be an easy jaunt for me. Lots of lodging within 30 minutes or so.

So if its plum island, then what's the date?
Posted by Nick Leadley on January 9, 2012 at 11:08 AM
That's the $64,000 question at the moment.....right now the only time that does not work for me is the weekend of Feb. 3-5 and the following week.

I'm pretty free except for the week between Feb 18 and 26... Other than that any weekend would work... So are people free in late January? Like the weekends of the 21st or 28th?

Those dates in January should work for me. Does anyone know of hotels in that area that might have a room where we could set up to show images? At past get togethers we have shown our work as a way to get to know each other. We don't need a big conference room type space.
