Just made final confirmation with the folks and everyting is still a go for Sunday...even if it snows! There is still room...just bring $8.00 and come to the location on the attached map..dress for the weather.

Sunday, January 15th at 9:00 AM sharp.

Location: Jewell Wetlands Park, Aurora, Colorado

Google Map: http://g.co/maps/r8tv8

Look for my tan/gold Jeep Grand Cherokee with Retired Army sticker on back window.

If you want to be added to this list, let me know in a reply to this post.

Here is a list of who has indicated they are coming...please verify:

Jack Garrett
Anne Rusk +1
Bill Pelzmann
Joel Higgs
Don Jennemann
Bill Bean
Bob Karcz
Sergio Ballivian
Bob Falcone
Richard Olsen
Brian Jackson
Randall K. Roberts
Vincent Martinez +1
Bob Maynard

Based on number signed up and possible 2 or 3 not showing up, I think $8.00 per person should work with any amount over $100.00 being donated to the folks who are bringing the raptors. You are welcome to donate more if you wish..they are a non-profit. Please bring exact amount to the park.

Anne Rusk is going to let us know about a place where we can meet for brunch after for those interested.

I think this is gonna be a great event and if anyone else wants in, add your name and show up on the 15th. See you there!!

Jack

I'm in!

This sounds very interesting, but because I'm new to RMNP, I'm not sure what this is all about. Would you please tell me something about this event. I would love to participate! Thanks. Deb

Welcome to the forum Debbie! There is a non profit group that is going to meet us at the Aurora Wetlands to shoot some Raptors. They have an Owl, a Gryfalcon, a Harris Hawk and one other bird that I can't remember. We will have an opportunity to shoot them on perches, doing a little flying and going after prey. I'm not a bird shooter but several people in the group are and I'm sure they will offer their expertise in telling us how to get the best shots. It would give you a great opportunity to shoot some wildlife and meet some of the forum members at the same time.

If any of you bird guys have some input for Debbie, chime in!

Jack, thanks for the info! What an awesome opportunity! I'm so excited to go. I've just started dabbling into wildlife photography and could certainly use some pointers. Do we need to bring cash for the donation or can we write a check? Deb

Cash would be preferred since I don't know the exact name of the organization. I suppose you could make out a check to them when you get there.

I'm in and would like to bring my wife, Sharaine, so that's Randall Roberts + 1. We'll bring $16.
thanks!!

Please change that to Pelzmann +1. Thanks!

You got it Bill.

Can't wait!!! JR and I will be there. We'll be driving a dark grey Nissan Rogue.
There is a Panera Bread nearby....I am going to call to see if they have a separate room we might be able to use. I thought that might work pretty well since everyone can order/pay for themselves and get lunch or breakfast and then we have a place to hang out. Any thoughts/ideas? It's on Iliff and Peoria; one block south of the park.
Please let me know if this sounds like a good idea or if we are looking for a more sit down place...

There is also an Applebees nearby and a Ruby Tuesday on the other side of the freeway.
Next to Panera is a place I haven't tried, but the menu looks pretty good: the Bent Fork Grill. www.bentforkgrill.com They have sandwiches, burgers, pasta, salads, and a full bar. They open at 11. If you like a beer with your lunch, Panera probably isn't the way to go.
I'll call a couple of these and see if we are able to reserve a section or how that would work.
Posted by Jack Garrett on January 5, 2012 at 11:27 PM
I'm thinking we would get there around 11 Anne. I know Panera opens early, not sure about the others.

What's the best caliber for taking them out quickly and cleanly?
Posted by Bob Falcone on January 6, 2012 at 1:22 AM
I'll be there!
Anne, some Panera Bread locations have meeting rooms that can be used for no charge as long as you book in advance.
Posted by Bob Karcz on January 6, 2012 at 7:17 AM
Jack- I will be there. Thanks for taking the time to set this up!
Posted by Brian Jackson on January 8, 2012 at 12:25 AM
Yup, I'll be there.
Posted by Bill Bean on January 9, 2012 at 11:05 PM
Todd, I'm partial to a flat shooting fast round like a .25-06 but some folks prefer a slower heavier round, say, a .375 H&H. Depends on the range I guess.

This sounds like fun....I am planning on being there.
