Hi all, I couldn't seem to post using the post about introducing yourself, so I'll do it this way...
My name is Debbie Yarra (Australian decent) and I'm 51 years old. I grew up in Jersey and then lived in Maine for 10 years. Came out to Colorado Springs in 1998 with my partner, Jaye and my son, Ed and knew I found my heaven here in the west. Each time I explore a little more of the west I fall more in love with it!
I am the mother of an amazingly talented young man of 23 years, the step mother to four aging critters (2 cats and 2 dogs) and very sadly, a recent widow since 12/10 from my soul mate and partner of 15 years.
I am a registered nurse by midday and a nature photographer during sunrise and sunset and every other hour I can get it in. I still haven't given up on the idea of making a decent living in photography, but for now I'm grateful to have an awesome profession to keep me out of debt.
I love most photography, portraiture/weddings being my least favorite.
I'm self taught in all aspects of photography and only recently in the last 5 years switched to the dark side. I'm not sure why I dragged my feet...stubborn and fearful I guess. Soooooo glad I got over that!
I find being out in nature the closest way to God. Therefore, I love hiking, camping, gardening, rock collecting (my home decor is early rock formations ), sitting under a tree, watching the birds in my backyard and gazing at the moon. My favorite smells are burning wood in a campfire and balsam fir trees. The top #1 thing on my bucket list is to see the Auroras. Seeing the slot canyons in Page, AZ (or anywhere else for that matter) a close 2nd.
I love reading, music, a good cup of coffee, singing and playing guitar (although, I haven't picked up my guitar for years), growing orchids, astronomy, red wine with friends, yoga, suduko, learning new things and oh yea, I'm a vegetarian.
One of my goals for this year is to try backpacking, so I can photograph nature off the beaten track. I've never been backpacking, but I've just acquired the equipment, I have the physical abliity and now need a photographic partner or group to do it with. Any takers?
Looking forward to learning and growing with you! Already I have spent the last few nights staying up until 2 am (I'm pooped)getting to know NPN and posting and commenting and asking questions. I'm so glad I joined. Thanks for your friendship...I love this group already...awwww group hug!

@Pam....Thanks for the welcome! I have posted two photos, one in "landscape" and one in the "weekly challenge" already. @Bill...Thanks. I thought the intro might be a little over the top...It was starting to sound like I was writing something for a dating service
Thanks for your compliments on my gallery....I think everyone of those images are film, which shows how outdated the site is. I have had the Mountains "coming soon" Gallery sign up for about 4 or more years...sad but true. I'm wanting to totally revamp the site and get some of my more recent work up. Time has been the challenge. I hope to do it this year. Looking forward to meeting you too. Wondering if my Nikkor 80-400mm will suffice for the shoot. I'm planning on buying some big glass, 500mm f4 with 1.4extender, but I don't think I'll have it by the shoot. Let me know. Blessings to you both! Deb

Welcome to the forum Debbie, that was a nice intro. You have some nice images in your gallery. We have several events throughout the year and hoping to add more. Coming up is the raptor shoot (first time event for us) and the shindig..that is a blast! We will most like have another Utah get together in the spring and some of our state event coordinators will be setting up events in NM, WY and MT. People in this forum are extremely friendly and helpful. You will get honest critiques if you ask for them and it really gives you a chance to grow photographically.....so jump in and have fun!

400mm should be fine for this shoot.

I've known Debbie for a few years now and can attest to the fact that she's a welcome and much needed addition to this motley group. Besides, we can always use more chicks, man!

Welcome Debbie! It's nice to have another lady photog in the midst. And we hope in spite of Todd, that you'll stay

Thanks all for the great welcomes! I was going to comment on Todd' "chick" comment and say that I'm more in the "hen" range , but I do prefer being called a "gal". @ Angela... Luckily, Todd and I have the type of relationship where we can banter back and forth...he don't scare me !
@ Kane.. I have 3 posts, just take a peek at my gallery. Looking forward to seeing everyone's work and possibly meeting some of you at the raptor shoot or the shindig Blessings, Deb
