Hey, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to many good things in 2012. I have been giving a lot of thought to events in Colorado and wanted to share those with you for input.
First, I want to emphasize that I am merely the event coordinator, meaning I am here to assist with the details of an event; I do not have to be the event creator. If you have an idea for an event, great! Let me know if I can help!
Second, I am hoping to facilitate one "event" per month where people in the region can meet face-to-face. That's my whole goal. The term "event" applies to shooting engagements (like the raptor shoot) as well as lunch near a favorite shooting spot (like Shrine Ridge).
Finally, I will try to put event ideas out at least a month in advance so people can plan.

So far, some ideas we have are as follows:
Snowshoe to Mayflower Gulch for sunset
Critique corner at a coffee shop (bring a print and get/give live critique)
Weekend at the Sand Dunes
Brunch in Vail after Shrine Ridge sunrise
Lunch in the San Juan region during wildflowers/fall colors
Lunch in Crested Butte during wildflowers/fall colors
Lunch in Steamboat during fall colors
Meetup at Botanic Gardens or Butterfly Pavilion
Bill Pelzmann may be heading to the Bisti Badlands in NM in March or April and willing to lead others out there.

If you have other ideas or are interested in being a contact person for one of these events, please let me know. We are also looking into a new bumper sticker to identify ourselves (but not our camera gear!) with Jim so stay tuned.

I am really looking forward to an active year with NPN and meeting many of you in person!

I believe Bret Edge will be announcing another "Moab Shindig", possibly the weekend before the Moab Symposium. He tells me he'll be able to nail down specifics some time in March. Otherwise, the Moab Symposium just opened registration and ought to be a "don't miss" event. http://www.moabphotosym.com/

Could use an event down here in Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, etc. How about an Antelope Canyon tour, or fall weekend in Zion? Or heck, party in Vegas with a local! (anyone attending CES / PMA this week?)

If the timing works, I am usually in the San Juans the last week of July "Wildflower Season" in the 4x4's. Also going to the Durango Silverton NGRR Winter Photo Shoot over Presidents Day weekend. Moab in mid-May or mid-October annually. I'll keep watching and maybe I can attend one of the gatherings :)

Lots of excellent ideas Anne. I think the critique corner could almost be a monthly or bi-monthly thing, people frequently have new stuff, or just to shoot the bull on trips, gear, etc.

Also like the events centered on annual things most of us do anyways like wildflowers in Crested Butte, fall color in San Juans, etc.

The dunes weekend could be loads of fun with a big BBQ! :toast:

Ken, I am excited about the possibility of another Moab Shindig and am already registered for the Symposium!
Karl, I didn't mean to leave out your area, but I don't want to step on any toes since I'm the CO state rep. I know the other state coordinators have many ideas as well to get us all together.
Thanks, Josh! I agree that the critique corner could be more frequent, we'll just have to see how it goes!
I'm really looking forward to this year!

I'm skipping the Symposium but am definitely on board for another Moab Spring Fling. I'm also waiting to hear more from Bill P about Bisti. Weekend(s) at the Dunes would be good and I'm always anxious to meet up with other RMNPers when I'm out in the field ala Crested Butte, etc.
On a little out of area note, I'm planning a trip beginning Memorial Day weekend that will take me to the Northwest, specifically Columbia Gorge, Hoh Rain Forest, Washington Beaches, the Palouse, and Yellowstone. If anyone is going to be in those areas late May or early June give me a shout and maybe we can get together for a cuppa.
Beyond that, thanks Anne for the great ideas.

I'd certainly be up for meeting up for lunch/dinner out here in Western CO or Utah as long as I'm not already busy on the dates/times chosen.

I had a good time last year at the 'Moab Shindig' and will plan on attending again if I can.

Great list of suggestions, Anne.
How about a group shoot in Monte Vista during the crane migration?

I'm up for the Mayflower Gulch snowshoeing, I haven't been there so I couldn't lead a group though.
