John I was quite astounded. The Friday i took this was the only calm day for a week (the day before I left the country) and this particular bird caught 8 voles while I was watching. It would come down, spend 2 minutes presumably killing the vole then fly off to another spot for 1 minute then fly off with no vole. Due to the grass I cannot say if it ate them or not but cannot believe 8 voles+ would fit inside the owl, would love to know if it stored them or was playing cat and mouse with one vole over and over....but it definately landed in different spots.

Ive seen quite a lot of the short eared owls this year photowise on forums....but not too many with voles! This pushes the shot up a level IMO.
A great flight capture and as already mentioned the addition of the vole certainly lifts this shot above the ordinary.

You can't beat it the vole makes the shot.

Superb image Neil as previous posts say the vole is the icing on an already great image. Light and BG is also a great compliment to the shot. Interesting comment about the number of voles caught. Any one got an answer?
