Shutter dead??
I think I already know the answer, but does this look like a failed shutter mechanism? A long weekend of shooting, thank goodness this didn't happen 'till late this afternoon. And my old 10D still works.

I would suspect it's part of the shutter curtain rather than the shutter mechanism itself. Hopefully it will not be as expensive to repair/replace.

First image of yours that I'm glad isn't mine.

Looks like it to me Bob. Canon has been known to fix broken shutters no charge even out of warrenty so keep a good thought.

I wore out the shutter on my 10D and canon replaced it and my worn hot shoe for $180. I think they price things in tiers, so if it's a non-pro body camera it will likely be $180, $207 after tax and if it's a pro body, it will likely cost $325. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about this - I haven't had to deal with this sort of thing yet, so will be most interested in knowing the eventual analysis. In the meantime, with your latest posting of the Grosbeak, it appears the back-up "old" body is doing the job very nicely. But, you'd want the 1D back before the Garths and Brians descend upon you!

All the best,

Similar to the results when the shutter blew out on my F100 last year. Cost a couple of hunded to fix! :frown: In my case, I think I got sloppy during a fast reload and nicked the edge of the thin metal curtain with an edge of the film. After some fast clicks, the thing flew apart.
