Ringed Plover + 2 REPOSTS
Thanks for the comments on my last image.

This is another from when I was in Norfolk at the end of August. I coudn't get close enough for a frame filling shot of this Ringed Plover, so I opted for a small in the frame image. What are your opinions of it? C&C welcome.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 200-400
Handheld kneeling on the sand!
F5.6
1/2000s
ISO 400

Hello Oscar,
I like the idea but overall it doesn't quite work for me. If I may make a couple of suggestions . . . firstly I would try a little clockwise rotation to level out the edge of the sand bar. I appreciate that the bird appears upright and that you were probably shooting at a bit of an angle (which for me always makes the horizontals difficult) but give it a try. Secondly I would crop out the bottom darker shade of water as I feel this is giving too many 'stripes' (if you get me) in the image and also, as it falls away to the RHS, it is adding to the slightly out horizontals. Lastly, possibly try a little extra sharpening on the plover.
Nits over, but other than that I do like the positioning of the bird in the frame and you have obviously given thought as to how to get around the issue of distance.
All the best. :toast:

Good potential but I would take Roberts suggestion and make it happen ;)

I like this. The bottom "stripe" gives an illusion of the camera having been half under water. I agree about the rotation and I would crop a little from the top to exclude the cut off OOF birds(?). I might also crop a little from both edges. There's something to see and think about in every part of the frame. Good work!

Hi Oscar
I think at the end of the day you you ended up with as you say " a small in frame " image and in that respect it works.
It certainly looks better in the big version. After all everyone will say different and the whole thing is often just personal preferences . If you got what you went for and did the best you could in the circumstances then what more is there ?

At least there's plenty of space for text in a two pager !! :toast: :toast:

Thanks for the comments. I am going to post 2 reposts. The first one is one where I decided to crop it into a pano to remove the OOF birds at the top.

Which of the 3 do you prefer?

The second repost is similar except with more space above the bird.

Hello again Oscar, the oof birds at the top didn't really worry me in the original image but now I'm faced with a choice of two I'd have to say the pano (1st repost) is my preferred one. The second repost is fine also, just personal preference.

Two good reposts, but the panoramic one is the best for me.

Very nice Oscar. I agree with David and I like the pano better. It would look very nice printed in this format IMHO. Nice work! :toast: :wavey: :toast:

The pano works best for me Oscar. I love the bands of colour with the bird against the darker band
